What are the chances, that email providers?
will eventually start charging us monthly? I've been thinking about this, and it seems to me, that if email started charging us fees to use their service, they would make a lot of money, and I think people would pay... would you? do you think they will? and why do you think they already haven't? this question is in consideration of the fact that you can not find an email provider that doesn't charge a monthly fee!

- About email providers can be read in http://cookingcom.synthasite.com/?q=email%20providers
- It would be financially disastrous for any e-mail provider to start charging, since there are so many free Web-based services available. I don't think we'll ever see it.
- Most services already charge a fee for email or at least for access. The gov is considering placing a tax on emails and the internet.
- You are charged a fee for internet access, which you need to send and receive emails, but unless you are signed up for some premium service, you can easily get free email accounts, like Yahoo's or Google's. They make their money from paid advertisements, This model works because by offering free email services, they get a LOT of visitors to their sites, which means they can charge the advertisers more. If they switched to a pay service, traffic to the site would drop considerably, and they would have to charge lower ad rates. It would be a big risk, and likely a wash, so I doubt any major free email service provider is considering this as a serious option at this point.
