Can you make your own free email service for others to use?

I want to make a free email service like hotmail or yahoo or myway is there anyway I can do that and do it for free? I want to make one of these sites

1. There are no real ways to do this for free. Unless you want to be heavily advertised on with out making money, and have a less then satisfying subdomain.

3. No WAY! Purchase yourself a server, e-mail exchange software, a dedicated IP address, and to not upset your clients better have a good battery back-up for power outages. Or obtain a commercial web hosting account with a lot of mail boxes.
